BlackBox Leech Box

The BlackBox project was to create a small portable PC that had a large harddrive. I could then take it to peoples places,
connect to network (auto get IP) and i could start dumping to it from another machine.

BlackBox is no longer being used as the harddrive died and then the power supply died. But it is not really needed these days anyway.

I started off with a small powersupply with a fan on bottom and a tiny ATX motherboard and CPU (only a P133)

Here is the motherboard with a video and network car on it.

I got a power button for it, one that lights up blue when on.

Here we see the whole system connected up for install of operating system.

I installed OpenBSD on it and setup Samba for windows file sharing.

This is the basic shape of the system. As you can see from the 30cm ruler, it is quite small.

This is the back of the case with the added ATA card to handle the 80GB harddrive.

Here you can see the case with the button at the front and holes at the back for power, network and air.

This is the case with the power supply and harddrive added. As you can see the sides hinge out for each access to the motherboard.

Next i painted the case a glossy black.

Here is the half assembled case after it was painted.

The front of the finished case. You can see the button in the middle. You can also see a slot on the right that was going to be a 20 LED display connected to printer pins to display how much harddrive has been filled. This never got completed.

This is the back with the power, network and air flow holes.

I also put a gold latch at the top to hold the sides on.
